After scanning your home network with your mobile app, you'll notice your list of network devices maybe changed. This happens because your app discovers any device which is connected to your home WiFi.
What are unidentified devices?
Unidentified devices can happen for a couple of reasons but the main reason is the manufacturer of the device won't allow the details to be discovered. There's nothing wrong or no issue with this scenario, it just means the manufacturer chose not to open their device for discovery. This is pretty common on devices which are internet ready but don't have complex features, possibly like smart electrical switches for example.
We recommend you look at your unidentified devices after each scan and rename them to identify them properly. It should be noted that any unidentified devices are covered by your Cyber subscription.
To rename or edit the details of a device
- Open the app
- Tap menu and then tap Network devices
- Select the desired device and tap Device name to edit/name it. The type of device and manufacturer can also be edited changed on this screen.
What to do if you have many unidentified devices
We see this from time to time and it's not reason for concern, here are few things to try and discover them.
- Rescan your network - Ensure the device or devices are turned on and connected to the network. One of the most common reason for unidentified devices is they aren't functioning, so make sure the device is working properly and scan your network again.
- Restart your router - This is a something you should do regularly, but can help the app discover the devices.
