
Tiktok has achieved over 2 billion downloads as of 2020 making it one of the largest and most successful social media platforms currently on the market. Tiktok itself is mostly harmless videos however there are risks associated with it just like any other social media platform, including keeping your family safe while using it.
TikTok Family Pairing(parental controls)
TikTok has a feature called Family Pairing - This allows parents to adjust screen time, direct message settings and the type of content visible to the child.
How to setup family pairing:
To link parent and teen accounts:
1. Tap Profile in the bottom right.
2. Tap the 3-line icon in the top right.
3. Tap Settings and privacy, then tap Family Pairing.
4. Tap Parent or Teen.
5. Follow the steps in the app to link accounts.
To manage or view Family Pairing controls:
1. Tap Profile in the bottom right.
2. Tap the 3-line icon in the top right.
3. Tap Settings and privacy, then tap Family Pairing.
4. Select the account you want to manage.
5. Update the controls, as needed.
In the family pairing settings, you can adjust the following controls:

Screen Time Management: You can adjust how long your child is allowed to spend on TikTok per day.

Direct Messages: You can restrict who can send messages to your child’s account (Everyone or Friends only), or turn off direct messaging completely. Direct messaging is automatically disabled for users between the ages of 13 and 15.

Restricted Mode: This setting automatically filters out content from your child’s feed that may not be appropriate for young audiences.

Liked Videos: You can adjust who can view the videos your child has liked (Everyone or Friends only).

Comments: You can control who can comment on your child’s videos (Everyone, Friends only or no one).

Suggest Account to Others: Control whether your child’s account can be recommended to others or not.
Turn on 2 Factor Authentication
- From the main profile menu, tap the hamburger menu and select settings and privacy
- tap Security
- tap 2-step verification, select 2 options and tap "turn on"
- Follow the instructions and your account should be secure
General TikTok tips

Try to avoid linking other accounts such as facebook or instagram to limit your risk while using TikTok.

Avoid opening external links from inside TikTok to avoid phishing attacks.

Always avoid using your full name, location or other personal details in your username or in your videos.
