Amazon Prime Day Scams – CyberAid

Cyber criminals use holidays, retail events and other high traffic online days to target and exploit users. Amazon Prime Day(July 12th and 13th) is a good example of this. An increase in cyber attacks relative to Amazon is expected over the upcoming days.

Phishing email-Amazon cancelled order

The above example states an order was cancelled and claims to have an invoice attached to it. If a user clicked on the attachment, some malware would be downloaded and the user would be exposed and possibly have passwords/login information stolen.

Protecting yourself

1. Look for anything that is misspelled in the body of the email/text message or in the link.

2. Make sure any Amazon URL is secured. You can confirm this by checking the URL/web address and ensure the "S" is in the beginning after http. Your browser will also show a picture of a lock in the address. Never make a purchase from a site that doesn't have a Secure address - The address should always look like this - https://

3.Be wary of extra information requests. No retail company would ever need things like your social security/insurance number, birthdate or driver's licence. The more information you disclose, the more likely or easily you could be targeted.
